Comets Excel in the Classroom
The Mayville State Women’s Basketball team is coming off of one of their most successful seasons on the floor. They finished the season with a 24-6 overall record, captured the NSAA Tournament Championship. They advanced to the NAIA National Tournament, where they won their First Round game and advanced to the Second Round.
But what may be even more impressive is their achievements off the floor and in the classroom. The Comets finished this past spring semester with a 3.76 team GPA. “Our players work very hard in the classroom and try to be the best students they can be during their time at Mayville State” comments Coach Hutter. “We have a saying in our program, that basketball may have brought you to Mayville State, but it is not why you are at Mayville State.” “You are here to graduate and get your degree”, adds Coach Hutter.
The team finished with five players finishing with a GPA of 4.0. The team also had ten players with a GPA of 3.75 or higher, and the team also had 13 players with a GPA of 3.50 or higher. Every player on the Comets Women’s Basketball team finished the spring 2023 semester with at least a 3.25 GPA or higher.
“I think our players do such a GREAT job of representing our program and Mayville State University on a high level both on and off the floor”, adds Hutter. “Their academic achievements far outweigh any athletic achievements they may have accomplished, because their academic accomplishments are what will get them to where they are trying to go in the very near future”, explains Hutter. And the future looks bright for this bunch of Comets!!!!
It has been a great year for the team both on and off the floor and they were able to “close out” the year the right way in the classroom this past month or so. It should be another fun year for the Comets next year, as they will return pretty much their entire roster from this past year.
