The Mayville State Women’s Basketball Team had their North Dakota Top 100 Basketball Camp this past June 6 &7. The entire camp took place on the campus of Mayville State University. The idea and purpose behind the Top 100 Camp, was to give players in the state of North Dakota a camp where the top players could all come together and compete and play with and against each other for a couple of days. Each player that attends the Top 100 Camp is personally invited to the camp through a nomination from their high school coaching staff or an area coaching staff. This was the second year of the camp and the camp has grown within the its first two years of existence. This year the camp had 63 campers registered for the camp, last year the camp had 50 campers participate.
The Top 100 Camp had players from all over the state of North Dakota. There were players from Bowman County, Rugby, Rolla, Casselton, Fargo, Bismarck, Thompson, Mayville along with many other areas of the state. The camps also had one player from Aberdeen, South Dakota.
While at the camp the players played four five on five games. They were also able to compete in a Free Throw and a Three Point Shooting contest. They also were able to grow and develop their games with some Individual Skill Development. The campers were also exposed to leadership lectures as well as lectures on Academic Performance and also the Recruiting Process.
The philosophy of the camp is to try and help all of the players grow on the floor through games, skill development and healthy competition. Also, to help the campers grow off the floor as well through leadership lectures. The camp also helps the kids that have a desire to play college basketball learn a bit more about the Recruiting process, and some things they can do to help themselves within that recruiting process.
The camp is ran by the Mayville State Women’s Basketball Coaching Staff and players. The Comet players do a great job of coaching and leading the camp. They also share their personal experiences to help the campers grow both on and off the floor. The camp would not be able to exist without the effort of the Mayville State Women’s Basketball Players.
We are hoping to continue to grow the camp, while trying to help grow girls basketball in North Dakota. We are hoping we can get 70 campers to attend next year. Camp dates for next year have already been set. They will be June 5 & 6 in 2023. Thanks to EVERYBODY for all of your help with a successful Top 100 Camp in 2022.
